Sexting: responding to incidents and safeguarding learners (Wales)

What is it?

This best practice guidance provides guidance for schools, colleges and other educational settings in Wales on how to deal with youth-produced sexual images. It is published by the UK Council for Internet Safety.

It covers:

  • Responding to disclosures
  • Handling devices and imagery
  • Risk assessing situations
  • Involving other agencies, including escalation to the police and children’s social care
  • Recording incidents
  • Involving parents and carers
  • Preventative education

How to use it

Use this guidance to help you develop policies and procedures that enable you to respond to incidents effectively and comply with legislation. You can also use it to find further resources and sources of support in dealing with youth-produced imagery.

Who can use it

Designated senior persons for child protection (DSPs), headteachers and senior leadership teams in schools, colleges and other educational settings in Wales.
