The Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre is working with INSAFE (the network coordinators for the European Commissions 'Safer Internet Plus Programme') to promote the Safer Internet Day 2008 Competition.

The Competition:

Life online is what YOU make of IT

Insafe, the European network of internet safety awareness nodes launches a Safer Internet Day 2008 Competition.

  • Is the internet a positive or negative element in today's world?
  • Are mobile phones only about "connecting people"?
  • Can we believe everything we see on the internet?
  • Do we behave differently online than in the "physical" world?
  • How does our behaviour impact on the online environment?

Young people are invited to express their ideas about these and other aspects of the virtual world by creating a multimedia project for the Safer Internet Day 2008 Competition.

Contestants are invited to work in groups and use their experience and creativity to illustrate their online reality. They should indicate the appropriate age category: 5-10 years, 11-14 years, or 15-19 years. The competition is open to schools, leisure clubs, youth groups, training institutes etc.

Children in the 5-10 years category are invited to create material in electronic form that can be printed (posters, flyers, comic-strips, post-cards etc).

Participants in the other two age categories (11-14, 15-19) will create audiovisual entries* including but not limited to films, mobile movies, music/songs, video-clips and power-point presentations. If you wish to take part to the competition, send an email CEOP education mailbox with 'INSAFE SID 2008 Competition' in the subject line. This is not a registration. This will simply give us an idea of the number of entrants to help us organise the selection process.
